Hu, Danian; Zhang, Baichun: The Odd Couple: Boltzmann, Planck, and the Application of Statistics to Physics

The paper will focus on the introductory works by Zhou Changshou in the 1920s. Zhou majored in physics at Tokyo Imperial University in Japan, he was among the first to introduce in China Planck’s quantum theory, Einstein’s light quanta, and Bohr’s atomic theory. The paper will investigate both sources and impacts of Zhou’s early introduction in China.
